# AI credits

## Learn how AI credits work, what actions consume them, and how to use them efficiently across plans.

Your AI credit count determines how many requests you can send to the AI Agent in your plan. Each message you send to the AI Agent uses AI credits based on your plan.

### What uses an AI credit

An AI credit is used each time the AI Agent responds to a request, like:

- Generating a new section or page
- Updating text, images, sections, or layout
- Adding or modifying functionality
- Fixing issues or bugs
- Brainstorming ideas or answering a question
- Researching keywords or checking your search rankings

**Note:** Follow-up replies that continue the same change also use AI credits.

### How AI credits work

AI credits are used when the AI Agent completes any of the following actions:

- Reads your request and sends a reply
- Reads your request, updates your website, and saves a new version with restore capability

On the Free plan, each message uses 1 credit, and your 5 daily credits reset at midnight UTC. On paid plans, each message uses credits based on how much work it takes. For example, messages that generate images, research keywords, or involve multiple changes may use more credits than simple text updates.

Credits are deducted after the AI Agent completes its response. As long as your credit balance is above zero, the AI Agent will process your request. AI credits aren't used when you:

- Generate your initial website design
- Navigate the B12 editor
- Preview your site
- Edit code manually (without prompting the AI Agent)
- Restore a previous version

### Plan options

Your available AI credits depend on your subscription plan.

| #### **Free plan** 5 AI credits per day (limit of 30 per month) Best for: - - Testing B12 - Small edits or experiments - Learning how the AI Agent works |

**Tip:** If you've used all available AI credits, upgrade to a higher plan to continue using the AI Agent.

| #### **Website + Client Engagement ($78/month)** 300 AI credits per month Best for: - - Managing client relationships alongside your website - Building and refining a website with client engagement tools - Growing your business with integrated client management |

**Tip:** When you use all your AI credits, you can still view and manage your site, edit code manually, and restore previous versions.

### Checking your credits

You can check your remaining AI credits at any time from the B12 dashboard. Credits are displayed as two separate counters: **Monthly credits** and **Daily credits**.

1. In the upper-left corner of the editor, click the ![dashboard b12 logo](https://support.b12.io/hubfs/dashboard%20b12%20logo.svg) **logo**.
2. Locate the **Credits** section to view your current usage.

Your daily and monthly credit counts update automatically as you use the AI Agent. If you run out of credits, you can still manually edit your website using [code](https://support.b12.io/en/v3/editing-your-websites-code?hsLang=en) or the [left sidebar settings](https://support.b12.io/en/v3/left-pane-editing-in-b12-3.0?hsLang=en).

### Purchasing additional credits

If you run out of credits, you can buy an additional credit pack to increase your monthly credit allowance.

1. In the upper-left corner of the editor, click the `logo`.
2. Click `Upgrade plan`.
3. Next to **Monthly credits** on your plan, click `Change`.
4. Select a new monthly credit amount. Options range from your plan's included credits up to 10,000 credits per month.
5. Click `Update plan`.
6. On the checkout page, review your new monthly credit amount and total. Update your payment method if you need to.
7. Click `Pay now`. Your credits are applied to your account automatically after the purchase is successful.

Additional credits change your subscription. They're a recurring monthly amount, not a one-time pack. The dropdown sets your new monthly total, from 300 up to 10,000 credits, and each 100 additional credits costs $25 per month ($20 per month on an annual plan). If you're still on the $1 introductory offer, adding credits ends the offer right away. Your first charge is prorated for the days left in your billing cycle, so it's lower than the full monthly amount you'll pay at your next renewal.

Credits reset on the 1st of each calendar month, not on your billing date. You can lower your monthly credits at any time, but not below the number you've already used this calendar month. If you've gone past a lower amount, wait until the 1st to change it.

### When credits reset and what you're charged

- Monthly credits reset on the 1st of each calendar month, not on your billing date. Paying a bill doesn't refresh your credits.
- On the Free plan, daily credits reset at midnight UTC.
- When you add credits partway through a month, checkout shows your new monthly total, but today's charge only covers the days left in this month.
- If you're on the $1 introductory offer, adding credits ends the offer right away.

### Best practices

To use fewer credits, make text and style changes with **Visual edit**, fix mistakes with **Restore** instead of asking the AI Agent to undo them, and put related changes in one clear prompt.

To get the most from your AI credits:

- Plan your changes before you prompt
- Refine ideas using external LLMs
- Limit brainstorming/ questioning with the AI Agent to conserve credits
- Use clear, specific instructions, combining related changes when appropriate
- Use restore to undo changes instead of prompting

### AI Agent vs. visual edit and code changes

B12 gives you three ways to update your website: using the AI Agent, make visual edits to text and images, or editing code directly. Choose the method that best fits your change and skill level.

#### Use the AI Agent to:

- Generate or rewrite content
- Generate new images or update generated images
- Make changes involving multiple elements or complex logic
- Implement changes when you're not sure how to code them

The AI Agent handles the implementation for you. Each AI Agent request uses AI credits from your monthly quota, with the exact amount depending on the request's complexity.

#### Use Visual edits to:

- Replace or update simple text/copy
- Replace images with an image from your library or upload a new image
- Adjust or enhance images with the built-in image editor

#### Use code changes to:

- Adjust small styling details
- Save AI credits for bigger tasks
- Edit HTML, CSS, or JavaScript directly
- Make changes when you know exactly what code to modify

Code changes, text edits, and image edits don't use AI credits and give you immediate control over your site's appearance and behavior.

If something goes wrong after a code change, use the restore option in the AI Agent chat to revert to a previous version.

**Caution:** Only make code changes if you're comfortable with code editing. Incorrect code edits can break your website's functionality or appearance.
