Manually Connecting Your Domain to B12

Learn how to manually connect your domain to your B12 website.

Before proceeding with manual domain connection, we recommend attempting the automated connection process outlined in our Publishing your Website on a Custom Domain article. If the automated method doesn't work, follow the steps below to manually connect your domain to your B12 website.

1. Log into your B12 Account

2. Navigate to the Domains Section

  • From the Home menu, click Domains.

3. Add Your Existing Domain

  • If this is your first domain, click Connect existing domain.

  • If you've added domains previously, click Add domain, then select Connect existing domain.

4. Enter Your Domain Name

  • Input your domain, starting with www (e.g., www.yourdomain.com).

  • Optionally, check the Make this my primary domain box to set it as your official domain for search engines.

5. Access Your Domain Provider's DNS Settings

  • Log in to your domain registrar's account (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap).

  • Locate the DNS management or zone file settings for your domain.

6. Add a CNAME Record

  • In your domain provider's DNS settings, create a new CNAME record with the following details:

    • Name/Alias: www

    • Type: CNAME

    • Value/Points to: Copy the value from your B12 Domains panel.

    • TTL: Set to default or 3600 seconds.

7. Add an A Record

  • In your domain provider's DNS settings, create a new A record with the following details:

    • Name/Host: @

    • Type: A Record

    • Value/Points to: Copy the IP address from your B12 Domains panel.

    • TTL: Set to default or 3600 seconds.

8. Save Your DNS Changes

  • After adding the CNAME and A records, save or apply the changes.

9. Wait for DNS Propagation

  • DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally, though they often update sooner.

10. Verify Domain Connection in B12

  • Return to your B12 account's Domains section.

  • Your domain's status should change to Connected once the DNS updates are recognized.
